Right Way Auto Repair is a certified Motor Vehicle Inspection Station. This means that our
operators are authorized to conduct the mandatory motor vehicle safety inspections required to
certify that vehicles meet the minimum safety requirements as well as to issue a Safety
Standards Certificate once the vehicle passes the inspection.
A Safety Standards Certificate confirms that your vehicle meets the minimum safety standards
on the date the certificate was issued; however, the certificate is not a warranty or guarantee of the vehicle's condition, or that the vehicle will stay fit for any certain period.
You need a safety standard inspection and certificate if you are attempting the following:
- Registering a rebuilt vehicle
- Transferring a used vehicle to a new owner
- Registering a vehicle in Ontario, which has been bought in or has come from another province, territory, or country
A Safety Standards Certificate is valid for 36 days after the inspection. During this period, the
vehicle can be given a license plate and sold to the new owner. If 36 days have passed and the car
has not been given a plate, it must be re-inspected and re-certified.
You can buy and register a vehicle without a safety certificate. However, it is highly
recommended that the seller provides you with the Safety Standards Certificate. Without the
safety certificate, you cannot legally drive the car.
When a mechanic informs you that your car did not meet the government’s safety
requirements, please remember that you are not obligated to have your vehicle repaired at the
place where the initial inspection was performed. However, within ten days you must return
the vehicle to the original Motor Vehicle Inspection Station for a re-inspection of the repaired
items and issuance of the Safety Standards Certificate. In this case, no additional fee will be
charged for the re-inspection.
